Aghalee Arts Based Programme
Well, yesterday saw the final workshop in the Arts Programme 2021/22. Through the programme funded by @Awards for All and Aghalee Village Hall, we held more than 45 courses and workshops for the local community, with activities for all abilities. More than 600 places were filled as people came out after Covid restrictions lifted, to meet old friends and make some new ones in a safe and comfortable environment. We drank gallons of tea and coffee, ate sooooo many buns and learned loads of new skills. The subjects were:- Men’s jewellery making, Mosaics, Shibori tie dying, Ceramics, Making beads, Printmaking, Willow wreath making, Tree of life jewellery making, Wooden spoon carving, An introduction to wood carving, 2D needle felting, Christmas themed wreath, Wellness, Local history, SEN making beads, Crochet, SEN Art Therapy, Wet and Dry felt making, Learn to use your sewing machine, Applique & redwork, Making a birdfeeder, Pyramid pouches, Embroidery, Wet felting, Making a windsock, Printing tee shirts, Junk Art. We made absolutely fabulous items to take home from every workshop. A couple of quotes from participants
‘Thank you so much for organising the workshops this year. I have found them to be really fantastic and a lovely way of taking time out for me from a busy family and work life.  It was so lovely after the isolation of Covid to get out and meet new people and the small classes in the small setting made everyone feel comfortable. As someone who didn't exactly excel at arts in school I feel I have learned a whole new skills set, some of which I have used since to make gifts for friends and family. Looking forward to more of these in the future and fingers crossed for next year's funding!’
‘I’ve been lucky enough to benefit from a few workshops at Aghalee village hall recently. All have been very well organised with marvellous tutors. I find them to be therapeutic and great fun being able to spend time with like minded people who enjoy crafting and being creative.  Because the costs are low I find it a great way to try something I’ve not done before without committing to a long course. I’m hoping to join in with more in the future and hope they are able to continue this excellent facility for the community.’
Thank you so much to Awards for All for helping to fund and thank you all for taking part. Hopefully we will receive grants for another Arts Programme for 2022/23
